When Jordan Peele first announced that his directorial debut would be a horror film, audiences were confused. At the time, Peele was best known as a sketch comic who played characters ranging from an annoying girlfriend to a maniacal airline passenger prepared to combat “terries.” Of course, anyone who was skeptical about Peele’s ability to make a horror movie was quickly silenced by Get Out, which succeeded as both a masterpiece of the genre and a startling commentary on contemporary racial issues....

Less than an hour before Apple’s WWDC keynote kicks off, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg shared some news that the company would be keeping its paid online events free for creators through 2023. Notably, the platform is also going to start showing Apple’s fees as a line item for Facebook creators’ earnings with Zuckerberg using the opportunity to once again criticize the 30% App Store cut. Conveniently timed right before Apple’s WWDC starts today, Zuckerberg shared the news in a Facebook post (via The Verge)....

Justice League’s Snyder Cut has better-looking CGI than the version released in theaters. Much has been made about the Snyder Cut’s status in terms of VFX completion, yet when comparing the two cuts, it’s clear Zack Snyder’s version is visually far superior. It’s been well chronicled that the VFX of Justice League is not 100% done, but some of it is complete (or close to complete) and a number of screenshots of the film released by Zack Snyder on the social media platform Vero, outshine the garish and unpolished visuals of Joss Whedon’s theatrical cut....

It looks like two important members of the Fast & Furious “family” – director Justin Lin and star Jordana Brewster - will be returning for the forthcoming Fast & Furious 9. Lin is often credited with evolving the series from a street racing saga and into one of the biggest action franchises on the planet. Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Will Ferrell star in the Downhill trailer as Billie and Pete, a couple whose marriage hits a snag after Pete chooses to save himself (and his phone) instead of his loved ones when they’re nearly killed by an avalanche during a family ski vacation in the Alps. The upcoming comedy-drama is an english-language remake of the 2014 Swedish film Force Majeure and will make its worldwide premiere at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival, ahead of its theatrical release in February....

Like all of his fellow heroes, Batman originally had a very different role in Zack Snyder’s cut of Justice League. Snyder stepped down from the film in May 2017, in the aftermath of the tragic loss of his daughter, with the film undergoing extensive reshoots in his absence. Despite Warner Bros. steadfastly assuring fans that the reshoots were the normal pickups most major tentpole films undergo, the version of Justice League released into theaters proved to be a huge departure from Snyder’s vision....

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Danny DeVito will join Dwayne Johnson and company in the sequel to Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Jumanji 3. Crazy Rich Asians actress Awkwafina also recently joined the cast of the action-comedy follow-up, which is due to begin filming in early 2019. Now a movie and TV legend, DeVito first became a star thanks to his Emmy-winning role as Louie De Palma on the classic sitcom Taxi....

Thanos actor Josh Brolin doesn’t mind if fans hate him after seeing his character clash with the Avengers in the upcoming superhero epic, Avengers: Infinity War. In the film that’s being called the culmination of the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, Josh Brolin’s Thanos will finally take his place as the villain of not just the Avengers, but the MCU as a whole. The character will take on Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, and the Guardians of the Galaxy....

Sony Pictures chairman Tom Rothman has confirmed Jumanji 3 for a Christmastime 2019 theatrical release. Last year’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was an unexpected financial smash hit for the studio that has grossed $957 million worldwide and is still going at the U.S. box office, four months after its December 2017 opening. Sony is naturally moving forward full speed ahead with a third Jumanji installment, with Welcome to the Jungle cowriters Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg and director Jake Kasdan all returning....

Jumanji is expected to cross $900 million worldwide this weekend. That officially makes it Sony’s second-best performing movie of all time. Meanwhile, its domestic box office has just passed Spider-Man 2. Nobody could ever have expected Jumanji’s performance to be quite so strong. The film has exceeded every expectation, continuing to perform well in spite of strong competition. It opened just a week after Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but still flourished....

A photo of Henry Cavill’s Superman with the mustache that was digitally removed in Justice League has finally found its way onto the internet - and no, this isn’t an April Fool’s joke. Cavill grew the mustache for his role in Mission: Impossible - Fallout, but had to return for extensive Justice League reshoots in the middle of Fallout’s production. Since Paramount Pictures wouldn’t allow him to shave off the mustache in the middle of filming, it had to be digitally removed in post-production, leaving Cavill’s Superman with a strange CGI upper lip and chin....

Every year dozens of movie remakes and sequels are released. Every once in awhile there comes a movie that in some ways is both - it continues the original story but adds in enough new characters and elements to revitalize the series like a remake would. One example of a recent sequel that also managed to achieve the same goals as a remake is Jurassic World. Jurassic World was certainly a sequel, the film made numerous references to the events of Jurassic Park and the two films that followed....

Apple’s latest legal fight with Qualcomm started last week and a jury verdict today spells disappointing news for Apple. The jury for the suit voted that Apple infringed on all three of the patents that Qualcomm based the case on as it seeks $31 million in damages. As reported by CNET, one of the key factors was that the jury dismissed the idea that one of Apple’s former engineers should be credited with co-invention on one of the patents....

Thanos will finally get his chance to show how powerful he is in Avengers: Infinity War, and Josh Brolin has returned to set to do even more motion-capture. The Mad Titan has been lurking behind-the-scenes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since the post-credit scene of The Avengers. After a brief appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy and actually picking up an Infinity Gauntlet after Avengers: Age of Ultron, it will be Infinity War that will see Thanos’ power unleashed....
