Superheroes come in all sizes and shapes, but in the long run, there’s only one World’s Greatest Detective in the comic book world – Batman. Throughout his various personas and iterations, whether as The Dark Knight, the Caped Crusader, or just Bats, Batman is a beloved figure the whole world over. Each year, when September 17 rolls around, fans of Bruce Wayne’s alter-ego come together to celebrate #BatmanDay.
With Justice League in production and about to showcase the lighter side of Ben Affleck’s Very Dark Knight, director Zack Snyder is getting in on the fun.
In honor of everyone’s favorite Bat (no, not Bela Lugosi), Snyder took to Twitter to celebrate the legacy of Batman. The DC Extended Universe director has one distinct advantage over your average Bat-fans as well. He has access to about as close to the real deal gear as possible. As a result, the Batman V Superman auteur posed in front of the Bat-Signal in honor of the Caped Crusader:
In honor of one of their oldest superheroes’ 75th anniversary, Detective Comics started Batman Day three years ago. Each year, fans can participate in events around the world, including comic shop activities, signings by well-known Batman creators like Frank Miller and Scott Snyder, and of course library events (check out DC’s list of activities). Devotees are also encouraged to peruse seven decades’ worth of Bat-material in print, enjoy an extended gaming session, or have a “Bat-Marathon” with their favorite movies.
After his first appearance in Detective Comics #27 in 1939, Batman rapidly rose through the ranks to become one of the publisher’s top selling comics and has consistently remained atop DC’s sales sheet. Creators Bob Kane and Bill Finger watched their humble super sleuth become a superstar in record time (although Finger, like Superman creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, received limited credit until much later). The Caped Crusader’s signature logo and cowl now adorn every form of media and any type of tie-in and peripheral imaginable. The future of Batman looks bright indeed.
Despite dips in popularity over the years, the superhero without superpowers has remained at the forefront of the public consciousness and continues to make waves in the DCEU. The latest Batman’s kill-happy rampage in Batman V Superman might have turned off a few moviegoers, but Snyder’s superhero lineup in Justice League, as well as Ben Affleck’s solo flick, look to return the Bat to his former glory.

Suicide Squad is now playing in theaters. Wonder Woman opens in theaters on June 2, 2017, followed by Justice League on November 17, 2017; Aquaman on July 27, 2018; an untitled DC Film on October 5, 2018; Shazam on April 5, 2019; Justice League 2 on June 14, 2019; an untitled DC film on November 1, 2019; Cyborg on April 3, 2020; and Green Lantern Corps on July 24, 2020. The Flash, The Batman solo movie, Dark Universe and Man of Steel 2 are currently without a release dates.
