A photo of Henry Cavill as Superman in Justice League has turned up online and it’s likely a photo from the Zack Snyder cut of the film. This suggests there is a cut of that movie around somewhere, giving fans who want Snyder’s version more fuel for their fire.

After Snyder stepped away from directing duties on Justice League to deal with some personal issues, Joss Whedon stepped up to the plate to direct the rest of the film. It was no secret Whedon did a massive series of reshoots and the film that ended up in theaters was more his than Snyder’s. Some fans appreciated Whedon’s take on the Justice League, while others insisted they would rather see the cut Snyder had done (and one they insist exists somewhere in Warner Bros’ archives).

Twitter user Felix Mitchell, who prides himself for being a part of the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut campaign on Twitter, released a photo he believes came from the original Snyder cut of the film. The movie shows Cavill as Superman with a backdrop that resembles one seen in Justice League, so it’s not too far-fetched to believe it came from the pre-Whedon version of the movie.

When Whedon came in to direct the reshoots for Justice League, Cavill had a mustache at the time, one he grew for Mission: Impossible - Fallout. Producers would not allow Cavill to shave the mustache for Justice League, so he had to shoot his new scenes with the mustache. Justice League’s CGI team later removed it with special effects, but the final result was something that looked really odd on the big screen.

This photo, though, shows Cavill without CGI on his upper lip, suggesting it could, in fact, prove the existence of at least some scenes in the movie that still exist from the time when Snyder was still directing. It does not, though, confirm there is enough Snyder footage for a complete film. Considering how many folks widely panned Snyder for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, it may be bizarre to some that there’s such a vocal push for his version of Justice League.

Justice League released last year and did a lot to divide DC Comics fans. While some seemed to love the movie, others wished for something more, something that might have existed before the movie changed directors. Critics seemed as equally as divided and remain so even a year after its release. DC still continues to struggle to bring its superheroes to the big screen, save for the exception of Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman.
