Tom Whalen’s fantastic LEGO-fied Justice League poster is now available at San Diego Comic-Con 2017. The Danish toy giants have had a long and fruitful partnership with DC. Batman featured prominently in 2014’s The LEGO Movie and positive fan reception to the character led to a spinoff, inventively titled The LEGO Batman Movie (which some have argued is one of the best iterations of the Caped Crusader ever to grace the big screen).

Although the likes of Batman, Wonder Woman and Superman have frequently been given a colored-brick makeover throughout the years, the lesser known members of the Justice League haven’t been quite as lucky and the League certainly haven’t been showcased together as a team, very often. Happily, the forthcoming Justice League movie ensures that’s all about to change.

LEGO has unveiled a new SDCC exclusive poster featuring the Justice League cast by illustrator and designer Tom Whalen. The poster features Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Flash and Aquaman and Whalen has quite brilliantly captured the likeness of each actor from the movie - as much as anyone can with LEGO people, anyway. There are even cute little LEGO versions of the movie’s Parademons. The posters can be picked up for free from Booth 2829 today (20th July) and Saturday and Whalen himself will be available for signing between 3 and 4pm on the Saturday.

Of course, Superman is currently deceased within the DCEU, but his presence in the Justice League movie is hardly a secret and the character has featured prominently in some - although not all - of the promotional material released thus far. Interestingly, it also appears that one of the poster’s Parademons is carrying what could be one of the Mother Boxes that will appear in the movie. Either that or it’s a rogue red LEGO brick for someone to tread on.

There is plenty of eager anticipation surrounding the Justice League movie, particularly after the critical and commercial success of Wonder Woman. Figures behind the scenes have spoken very highly of the film and the Justice League trailer was released to a mostly positive reception from fans.

However there remains some skepticism surrounding DCEU releases, particularly after the divisive Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad. Both of those movies looked brilliant in their trailers and featured some of the best-loved characters in DC’s history - and although they both made plenty of money at the box office, neither could be described as a critical success. However, with Wonder Woman finally providing the franchise with a bonafide smash hit, hopefully Justice League can build upon that success and live up to its impressive billing.
