We’ve known that Warner Bros was planning a Justice League film for quite some time now, but we only got our first look with a trailer that debuted at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. The film will be directed by Zack Snyder (Man of Steel, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice), whose grim tonal direction of the DC Extended Universe so far has been divisive. But the trailer reflects what we’ve heard from the Justice League production team. Moving forward, things are going to get at least a little bit brighter in the DCEU.
In a post-Batman V Superman world, Batman (Ben Affleck) has realized the necessity of teamwork and friendship. With Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) already on board, he’s begun to recruit his league. Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Flash (Ezra Miller), and Cyborg (Ray Fisher) will all inevitably join up, alongside Superman (Henry Cavill), who’s not quite dead.

We’re sure JoBlo knows these graphics represent the 16-bit generation, so we’ll let them off on this technicality for the sake of series branding. The chiptunes version of The White Stripes’ “Icky Thump” is an especially nice touch. The video simultaneously evokes humor, nostalgia, and a relief that video games don’t have the same limitations they used to. Then again, a quality, licensed, 16-bit style, four-player Justice League beat-em-up would likely sell like gangbusters.

The Flash, The Batman solo movie, Dark Universe and Man of Steel 2 are currently without a release dates.
