A new piece of Justice League concept art provides the best look yet at Green Lantern Yalan Gur in the film. While fans long hoped - and rumors fanned the idea - that Hal Jordan or John Stewart would appear in Justice League ahead of Green Lantern Corps, that didn’t prove to be the case. In the end, the main team was all we got, but that didn’t stop the minds behind the film from throwing in a few cameos. The epic flashback battle in Justice League brought together Earth’s ancient defenders including Zeus and a quick glimpse of a very alien Green Lantern.

Though we don’t get a great look at the character in the film, it’s clear upon rewatching that the Green Lantern in question is Yalan Gur. There have been a lot of Green Lanterns, but Gur is a particularly interesting case. Introduced in the early ’90s as a means of explaining the Golden Age version of Green Lantern and his weakness to wood, Gur has never been prominent in the comics. But his time serving the planet in the 10th century means he was perfectly placed to fight alongside Zeus and the others. Now, we finally have a better look at one of his initial designs.

Reddit user Mephistopheles4Mirth has come across some concept art for Yalan Gur in Justice League. Though he looks a bit different from the character glimpsed in the film, the signature attributes from the comic are all there. Check it out:

Unlike the cloth costume from the comics, this one looks more like scale and plate armor. It still pays tribute to the color and design of the character and his outfit, however, and it would have been great to spend a little more time on the character. We don’t yet know the status of the intergalactic film, but Green Lantern Corps is said to still be in track.

Warner Bros. and DC’s previous Green Lantern film hardly fared well, but that didn’t stop Ryan Reynolds from bouncing back as Deadpool. Meanwhile, Sinestro actor Mark Strong has appeared in the Kingsman franchise and is about to play the villain in Shazam! for DC. Fans have long been hoping for a proper adaptation of Green Lantern, so hopefully Yalan Gur’s appearance in Justice League was testing the waters. The tease worked as well, with fans ecstatic over the brief dive into DC lore and a look at the possibilities beyond the core Justice League characters - which will hopefully mean more Green Lanterns in the future.
