Even though fans are still a few years away from seeing Jason Momoa and director James Wan bring Aquaman to the big screen, the character has already made a brief appearance in the DCEU. Momoa got his first chance to play the king of Atlantis in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, but is set to have a much larger role in Justice League. Arthur Curry will not be the only Atlantian appearing in the film either, with his true love and queen of Atlantis, Mera, set to appear, as well as one of Curry’s most trusted advisors in Vulko (Willem Dafoe).

So far neither of the other Atlantians have been seen during filming, but both Dafoe and Amber Heard, who plays Mera, have been spotted in Iceland where Justice League is filming. Now, fans can get their first official look at Heard in costume.

IGN has been able to release the first official look of Heard as Mera, with a very comic accurate costume on display for the leading lady. It is unclear how big of a role she will have in the film, but regardless, Mera standing on the ocean front is a great first look at the costume. IGN was also able to release concept art of Heard in costume.

For fans of the character, this should be a great first look at the live-action version of Mera. However, this is not likely to a major role for Heard this time around, with a much bigger role expected in Aquaman’s solo film. Even if the role is small, it will still be important in determining how eager viewers are to see more of Mera moving forward. Similar to how not all viewers loved each cameo by members of the Justice League in Batman V Superman, it is important that director Zack Snyder will give audiences a chance to get to know the character and not just see her.

If the reception to Mera is not as good as they had hoped, she will still have a prominent role in Aquaman regardless. The hope is that her appearance in Justice League will only make people more interested to see her in the film, so hopefully she and Momoa have great chemistry together. Mera and Aquaman’s relationship is very much a balancing act of figuring out just how involved Atlantis should be with land walkers, and that should be a focal point in the films as well. Fans will have to wait and see just how well Mera works in the DCEU, but for now everyone can at least see what Heard looks like in the role.
