Some brand new gameplay footage has arrived online for Jurassic World Evolution, the upcoming theme park video game that will let fans control the iconic dinosaur-stuffed island. Following in the footsteps of 2003’s Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis and the iOS/Android app Jurassic World: The Game, this new title promises to offer the most visually-stunning playable version of the park so far.
The first Jurassic World Evolution trailer reached the web in August, giving fans a tantalizing glimpse of this exciting new prospect. Frontier Developments – the company behind RollerCoaster Tycoon, Zoo Tycoon and Planet Coaster – has helmed this project. The game’s release is expected to tie-in with the upcoming cinematic sequel, J.A. Bayona’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
That first trailer for this new game was more of a proof-of-concept video, showing off some shots of the park and playing coy with regards to gameplay. In the wake of that, fans have been waiting patiently for a proper look at the Jurassic Park Evolution in-game experience. This trailer, for some fans, may sufficiently whet their appetite.
This new reel of in-game footage was released at Frontier Expo 17 over the weekend. And it’s impossible to deny the visual quality that it displays. The park looks great, the T-Rex looks scary, and there are even changeable weather conditions. And that final shot – which proves once again that “they do move in herds” – is sure to please long-term fans of the franchise. The sheer number of dinosaurs on display deserves to be commended, as well.
However, this video has come under criticism for one big reason: it doesn’t actually explain or reveal the gameplay dynamics of Jurassic World Evolution. Rather than featuring the in-game controls, menus or options, it just splices together in-game footage of the central dinosaurs. It feels more like a highlight reel of cinematic cutscenes than a true showcase of what it will be like to play the game. Fans are still clueless as to what the game will be like, outside of the fact that it will feature some dinosaurs in a park.
It is interesting, and somewhat frustrating, that fans still don’t really know what to expect from this Jurassic World video game. And the same goes for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom – filming has begun on the big screen follow-up to Jurassic World, but no footage has been released for public consumption just yet.

Jurassic World Evolution is released for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in summer 2018.
