The official title and poster for Jurassic World 2 have finally been revealed. The film is set to be the highly-anticipated follow-up to 2015’s box office hit reboot/long-gap sequel, Jurassic World, with Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard reprising their roles as Owen Grady and Claire Dearing. However, while Jurassic World 2 promises to pick up where its predecessor left off in some way, the film will also have a notably different tone and feel than the 2015 film, which likely is a result of A Monster Calls and The Impossible director, JA Bayona, taking over for Colin Trevorrow at the helm.
Principal photography on the Jurassic World sequel has been underway for several months now, with Bayona often taking to social media himself to tease the film’s heavy use of practical effects and puppetry multiple times, along with some behind-the-scenes looks at the film. And while plot details are being kept under tight wraps for the time being too, it looks like fans finally have some idea of the direction that the sequel will be taking the franchise in, following the destructive events that took place on Isla Nublar in the first Jurassic World.
Following the recent teases by both producer Frank Marshall and JA Bayona over the past few days of a big announcement coming regarding the film, it has finally been revealed that the sequel’s title will be Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Released by the film’s official Twitter account just mere minutes ago, you can check out the first poster for the film for yourself down below:
While the title and tagline don’t necessarily reveal anything concrete about the sequel’s story, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom does indicate that the film will have a much more ominous tone and feel than Trevorrow’s 2015 film did. That fits in line with several comments that Trevorrow himself has been making about the sequel over the past few weeks, even going so far at one point as to compare the film to that of a Spanish horror film, rather than the more traditional blockbuster adventure that the first Jurassic World was.
That will likely come as welcome news to fans out there who were disappointed by Jurassic World back in 2015 as well. Meanwhile, the poster’s tagline not only further feeds into a feeling of doom for the sequel, but connects directly back to Jeff Goldblum’s Dr. Ian Malcolm, who will be making his long-awaited return to the franchise in Fallen Kingdom. The promise of life finding a way, and the dinosaurs likely wreaking even more widespread havoc on humanity isn’t much of a surprise, of course, considering Jurassic World ended with the dinosaurs firmly in control of Isla Nublar. But, with a skilled genre filmmaker like Bayona onboard, the moody and emotional possibilities that kind of story allows for are practically limitless at this point.
