Josh Brolin plays both Cable and Thanos, and now new fan art has mashed those two roles together. Brolin has quite the year coming up, with David Leitch’s Deadpool 2 and Anthony and Joe Russo’s Avengers: Infinity War both hitting theaters in 2018. It has become quite common for actors and actresses to play major characters in two superhero franchises – sometimes even switching from hero to villain, or vice versa – but it’s rare to see someone play two major roles at the same time.

Brolin originally joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2014, and he made his debut as the villainous Thanos in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy that same year. He made another brief appearance in Joss Whedon’s Avengers: Age of Ultron in 2015, and now, Brolin will be making a full appearance in the Russos’ Infinity War next year, where he will presumably be taking on Earth’s mightiest heroes. Shortly after that, Brolin will appear in Deadpool 2 alongside Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool as Nathan Summers, aka Cable, a time-traveling mutant from the future.

Reynolds revealed the first look at Brolin’s Cable this morning, along with another full-costume debut, and it didn’t take long for enthusiastic fans to mash-up Cable with Brolin’s other character, Thanos. BossLogic posted the following subtle mash-up image on Twitter this afternoon:

BossLogic took the first reveal photo from this morning and switched out the glove Brolin was wearing on his left-hand with the Infinity Gauntlet he will eventually possess as Thanos in Infinity War. For those that don’t know, obtaining the Infinity Gauntlet (with the six Infinity Stones embedded on it) grants the wearer omnipotence, omnipresence, and omniscience, thereby turning whoever wields the Gauntlet into a god, for all intents and purposes.

Thanos and his Black Order will be hunting for the six Infinity Stones (of which five have been revealed so far) in Infinity War next year, and that will presumably lead him into a confrontation with the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy. One other change BossLogic made for the mash-up isn’t as immediately noticeable: Cable’s left eye. Instead of his techno-organic eye glowing red, as it does in the comics and the official reveal image, it’s glowing blue (just like Thanos’ eyes).

Although Brolin will first be appearing in Infinity War next year, people won’t actually see his face since the character will be created using CGI (with Brolin’s motion-capture performance, of course). So, that’s, in part, why Deadpool 2 director Leitch and Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige haven’t found an issue with Brolin playing both Cable and Thanos in two superhero franchises, simultaneously.
